Choose the record before choosing a copy

Fort Bend’s Court Records Research menu provides felony, misdemeanor and bond routes. A bond result can identify a proceeding, but the judgment or disposition answers what happened to the charge. For a district case, the District Clerk also offers historical-book research and electronic certified documents.

Three starting points serve different questions

Felony or misdemeanor proceeding

Open the corresponding court-record category. Keep the assigned court and case reference so a later copy request identifies the same prosecution.

Misdemeanor bond information

Use the bond entry to identify the associated case. A posted bond amount is not the court’s final decision on guilt or sentence.

Sex-offender registration

The county links the Texas registry separately. Its registration information is not a substitute for the underlying judgment or the complete local case file.

For old district files, search the index before the book

  1. 01
    Open the historical collection

District Clerk historical records describes criminal, civil and family index and minute books spanning 1821–1980. This is a collection description, not a promise of every document from those years.

  2. 02
    Capture book, volume and page

Use the index-search instructions to locate the party or case, then carry those references into the document-search instructions. Repeating a surname in the modern case portal does not locate an unindexed book page.

  3. 03
Review the located entry before purchasing

An account is required for historical-document purchases. Confirm that the page resolves the fact you need; an index entry alone may only direct you to the substantive minute entry.

District electronic certification: a 20-page example

Charge component Published amount
Certification $5
First ten pages $1 total
Next ten pages $1 total at $0.10 each

The District Clerk FAQ supplies this example; fees checked September 29, 2026. It applies to the stated electronic product, not every county-copy service.

Save the certified file and resolve an unavailable document

Download window and access are separate

The FAQ gives a 30-day download window after purchase. Save the original digital file. If the needed document cannot be obtained online, follow the FAQ’s Copy Request Form or party/attorney customer-service route. Confirm that the receiving organization accepts the electronic format before paying.
